Professional practice guidance for MSc SET learners
1. Program Mentor
Option Overview:
As a Program Mentor, you’ll serve as a guide and peer resource for new learners throughout their entire program. You'll help learners navigate each phase, reflect on their progress, and provide guidance throughout their ToU journey. The role is grounded in connection, empowerment, and helping others thrive through mentoring conversations. Your mentorship can be tailored to your availability, with the core responsibility of providing phase-based check-ins.

What you’ll be doing:
- Provide 1:1 or group mentorship throughout all program phases
- Lead one reflection session per learner per phase
- Support learners via Slack, email, and informal check-ins
Who is suited to run this option:
- You're familiar with the ToU experience and want to support others on their journey
- You're a strong communicator who enjoys mentoring and personal growth coaching
- You’re organized and empathetic, and enjoy offering encouragement
Number of learners: 5–10
Session commitment: 1 structured session per phase (30-45 minutes), with additional informal support (follow up sessions, slack, emails, etc)
Time commitment: 20–30 hours direct learner contact time, 20–30 hours prep/admin per year
⚠️ Important! In order to utilize this option for your professional practice, you must have supported learners for at least 8 months of their learning journey. As such, you need to have started mentoring before your program's elevation phase.
2. Subject-Specific Peer Mentor
Option Overview:
This option allows you to share your expertise from a relevant sustainability, entrepreneurship, or technology field, in the form of mentorship. You’ll coach a small group of learners by offering a structured mentorship program, where you provide personalized practical guidance, skill-building exercises, and an actionable pathway to success in your expertise area. It's ideal for those with industry experience and valuable skill sets, looking to support their peer’s professional development and gain valuable coaching experience.
What you’ll be doing:
- Guide 5–10 learners in your area of expertise
- Create mentoring plans, including activities and goal-setting
- Facilitate 1:1 or group sessions with actionable feedback
Who is suited to run this option:
- You have valuable subject matter expertise or industry experience you want to share
- You enjoy helping others grow and learn
- You’re looking to build your leadership and facilitation profile
Number of learners: 5–10
Session commitment: 5-6 structured mentoring sessions (30 - 60 minutes each)
Time commitment: 20–30 hours direct learner time, 20–30 hours prep/admin

Customer lens for designing good products: This mentorship empowers learners to use frameworks like the Value Proposition Canvas and Jobs to Be Done to deeply understand customer needs, refine their product ideas, and ensure market fit, while developing essential entrepreneurial and product management skills.
3. Circle Facilitator / Circle Lead
Option Overview:
Learning circles are high trust peer support groups based around a specific topic or identity. As a Circle Facilitator, you’ll lead a circle around a topic of your choice, facilitating discussions, developing learning exercises and inviting speakers. These sessions are safe, high-trust spaces for personal and professional growth and are designed to create deep connection and a support network for the participants. This role is ideal for those interested in facilitating connection and discussion around a specific topic or identity which they are interested in understanding in greater depth.

What you’ll be doing:
- Develop a Circle program
- Lead Circle sessions (monthly + quarterly event)
- Gather feedback and foster a vibrant Slack presence
Who is suited to run this option:
- You have some baseline subject / industry knowledge which you are eager to expand upon
- You’re passionate about peer learning and community
- You want to develop your coaching and leadership skills
- You can create inclusive, supportive, and purpose-driven spaces
Number of learners: 5–15
Session commitment: 4–6 sessions (1.5 - 2 hours) + Q&A/troubleshooting (1 - 2 hours)
Time commitment: 10 - 15 hours direct learner time, 35 - 40 hours prep

Women in tech: This intimate and participant-led Circle created a safe and empowering space for women+ in tech to share experiences, explore career challenges, and co-create solutions, combining personal storytelling, peer feedback, and collaborative learning in a flexible, discussion-driven format
Female leadership circle A facilitated peer-to-peer learning experience for female learners to develop mindful, human-centered leadership through live sessions, reflection, and community-building across cohorts.
4. Climate Fresk Facilitator
Option Overview:
Climate Fresk is a science-based interactive workshop to explore climate change causes and impacts. This option empowers you to become a certified facilitator and lead impactful climate education sessions within and beyond ToU. It combines research, facilitation and peer-peer learning within the field of climate and environmental science.
What you’ll be doing:
- Attend a Climate Fresk workshop (internal Climate fresk workshops run every three months)
- Complete the Climate Fresk Coordinator course
- Facilitate 2 Climate Fresk’s (at least 1 as main facilitator, and at least 1 within the ToU community)
- Promote climate change awareness
Who is suited to run this option:
- You are passionate about climate science and systems thinking
- You enjoy engaging groups in educational experiences
- You want to scale your impact in sustainability education
Number of learners: Flexible, >5 per workshop
Session commitment: participate in 1 climate fresk session, 1 coordinator course, 2 facilitated sessions (all 2 - 3 hours each)
Time commitment: 10–15 hours delivery, 35–40 hours prep/training
5. Workshop Series Host
Option Overview:
Lead a high-impact, hands-on workshop series to share your knowledge and tools with the ToU community. These workshops focus on practical application and skill mastery, and typically combine presentations, challenge based learning, learner feedback and guidance. This option is suited for those with industry experience and valuable skill sets, and should ideally focus on teaching leaners how to master specific tools, skills, methods and processes.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design and deliver a workshop, focusing on practical, experiential learning
- Create engaging learning resources and exercises
- Provide feedback and guidance to your learners to master the workshop skills
Who is suited to run this option:
- You want to share your expertise
- You enjoy teaching others through practical application
- You’re looking to develop your competencies in workshop facilitation
Number of learners: 5–15
Session commitment: 3–5 workshop sessions (2-3 hours each) plus at least 1 Q & A / troubleshooting session (1 - 2 hours)
Time commitment: 10–15 hours delivery, 35–40 hours prep

6. Other options
Option Overview:
This option is designed for learners who want to shape their own path in contributing to the Tomorrow University (ToU) learning community through a professional practice project tailored to their unique skills and ideas. If you have a compelling initiative that aligns with one of the three pillars of our Master’s program: Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, or Technology**,** and benefits the ToU community, this option gives you the flexibility to make it happen.
What you’ll be doing:
- Propose a self-designed professional practice option that benefits the ToU learner community
- Deliver 10–25 hours of learner-facing activities, such as events, content delivery, learner support, or mentoring
- Dedicate 25–40 hours to project preparation, content creation, coordination, and writing a final professional practice reflection
Who is suited to run this option:
- You have a clear idea for a community-relevant initiative grounded in one of ToU’s core pillars
- You’re proactive, self-directed, and excited to take ownership of a meaningful project
- You have a unique idea for a learning experiences and the knowledge/expertise to support it.
