The challenges and impact certificates on my WU transcript for my M.Sc SET are different to those I took at ToU. Additionally my grades appear differently?
You may notice on your official WU transcript that some of your challenges and impact certificate names look slightly different to those you took at ToU. Additionally, that the grades you received from ToU look different from those provided in the ToU app. In order to explain this difference, we have developed this document to show you how your ToU studies translate to the WU transcript.
ToU - WU grading
Within ToU, we grade your challenges using the following system:
- 1: Achieved with distinction (all must-haves and all go-furthers were achieved)
- 1.5: Achieved with honors (all must-haves and at least half of all go-furthers were achieved)
- 3: Achieved (all must-haves and less than half of all go-furthers achieved)
- 5: Not yet achieved (<100 percent of the must-haves have been achieved) - Requires resubmission
However, WU grades all challenges within the Orientation, Calibration and Elevation phases using the following scale:
- 1: Achieved with distinction (all must haves are achieved)
- 5: Not yet achieved (<100 percent of the must-haves have been achieved) - Requires resubmission
As such, once you complete your program, you will receive an achieved with distinction (1) for all challenges you have completed.
Please note: This grading scheme will appear different for all MSc SET students in cohort 14 onwards. Please see the cohort 14 assessment guide for more details

Why can I not see the challenges I took on my transcript?
As you can see in the above sheet, all your ToU challenges are named differently on the WU transcript. Essentially, this means that individual challenges, namely the orientation and calibration phase, are not named in the final WU transcript, and fall under a different classification.
Orientation phase challenges, are divided between three “modules”: Fundamentals in Business, Fundamentals in the field, Advanced topics in the Field: Modern technologies and new work, with each of these containing two orientation phase challenges.
For more details on your calibration challenges and impact certificates, see below.
Why are the Calibration phase Impact Certificates/courses on my WU transcript named differently from those on the ToU app?
When designing the program, we developed the original Impact Certificates (ICs) to cover general aspects of the master’s tracks: sustainability, entrepreneurship and technology. The reason for this, was to allow different challenges to be used for certain ICs, and to allow for the development of new challenges.
While the names of these ICs changed over time at ToU as we refined our program and developed new challenges, those of WU remained the same for accreditation purposes. This means that a ToU Impact Certificate, such as Entrepreneurship: Prototype Impactful Solutions appears as Advanced Topics II Sustainable Strategies & Product Development on the WU transcript. These two ICs however, cover the same topics, and the challenges within them address the required competencies. There is however, some difference in which challenges contribute to which IC to remain flexible for program design.
Can I get a certificate / transcript which does show the challenges and ICs I took?
Yes! While WU does not issue certificates/transcripts with this information, you can request a transcript from ToU which documents which challenges / ICs you completed using our classification system. Please reach out to Wiebke Lamer (wiebke@tomorrow.university) from our university operations team to make this request.
