Community Conduct & Escalation Policy
What to do if you witness or are subject to conduct that is in breach of our Tomorrow University Community Values.
Overview
Tomorrow University encourages bold thinking, debate and challenge. This policy covers conduct that goes beyond healthy debate and harms community members. It applies to all learners, staff, and guests in virtual sessions and in-person Immersion events.
All learners have signed the Community Learning Agreement, which underpins this policy.
Unacceptable conduct
- Hate speech - language targeting protected characteristics, race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, nationality, etc.
- Harassment or intimidation - targeted, repeated, or aggressive behaviour
- Extremist advocacy - promoting ideologies that support violence or deny human rights
- Radicalisation - attempting to recruit others to extremist views
- Deliberate disruption - blocking sessions or the learning of others
- Discrimination - unfair treatment based on a protected characteristic
📍Encouraged - not a breach: Challenging ideas, respectful disagreement, asking difficult questions and exploring unconventional thinking are all actively encouraged at Tomorrow University.
Your rights as a learner
- To learn in an environment free from harassment and discrimination
- To express your views respectfully, including challenging or controversial ones
- To report concerns without fear of retaliation
- To be treated fairly if a report is made about you
- To receive a timely and confidential response
How to report a concern
During a virtual session
- Alert the facilitator or host. Use the private chat or raise your hand. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, leave the session and get in touch afterwards by email.
- Contact the VP of Academic Affairs or your Program Director by email. These are the primary contacts for virtual incidents. Note any timestamps or take a screenshot if it is safe to do so.
During an in-person event
- Tell any Tomorrow University staff member: You can speak to them privately, look for the ToU lanyard or badge.
- Or contact the Senior Community Manager directly. Their contact details are shared with all learners at the start of each Immersion event. You may report anonymously.
- In an emergency: Call the local authorities immediately. Alert a ToU staff member as soon as it is safe to do so.
What happens after you report
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Within 1 working day | Your report is acknowledged by the relevant contact |
| Within 3 working days | You are contacted for any additional information |
| During investigation | You will not face the individual. Your identity is protected where possible. |
| After investigation | You are informed of the outcome in general terms. Specific sanctions are kept confidential. |
📍Confidentiality: Your identity as a reporter will not be shared without your consent, except where required by law or to prevent serious harm. Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith is itself a breach of this policy.
If a report is made about you
- You will be notified in writing and told the nature of the allegation
- You will have a private meeting to give your account
- You will be treated with dignity throughout, the process does not assume guilt
- You can appeal the outcome within 10 working days
